Austin Bernard Davis was born on August 12th, 1936 in Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas. He pursued tertiary education at Lasalle College in Montreal, Canada, Sawyer College of Business in Los Angeles, California, Ben Franklin University, and Strayer College in Washington, D.C.
Davis worked at the Bahamas Customs for 15 years before taking a leave of absence to pursue further studies. He then worked at Bahamas Oil Refining Company as a Controller of three BORCO subsidiaries and taught accounting at the local institute Sylvia Gill Institute in Freeport.
He also worked as a Licensing Manager at the Grand Bahama Port Authority and as Manager of Marina Hotel and Marina at Genting Lucayan Beach Hotel.
Later, Davis worked as a Technical Assistant to the President and Development Manager at Princess Properties/Princess Hotels and a Sales Representative at the Bahamas Tourist office in Washington, D.C.
He also worked as a Consultant on documents, supervision of construction, and repairs at the Department of Housing. Bernie is also a talented musician who performed as a band leader and vocal artist. He performed as a solo artist in concerts in many venues in The Bahamas and across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Sweden, and Spain, singing Caribbean music.
Bernie has many hobbies and interests, including athletics, performing arts, auto and marine mechanics, and rebuilding vehicles and boats.
He won the Most Outstanding Athlete Award at the inter-school track meet in Nassau in 1952 and was the First Bahamian Major League Baseball Scout for the Detroit Tigers in 1958.
He also officiated and coached softball, baseball, and track and field for many years, serving as Technical Director of YMCA games and the Brand Bahama Games.
Davis was involved in many community activities and served as a Charter Member of the Grand Bahama Sports Council, the Miss Grand Bahama Beauty Pageant Committee, and the Grand Bahama Child Care Committee. He also served as the Past President of the G.B. Softball Association, a Board Member of Y.M.C.A, and a member of the Grand Bahama Sickle Cell Association.
